UTUSAN EDISI BARU PRO BERSATU?

Hanya beberapa jam selepas diisytiharkan “mati”, Utusan akhirnya diketahui belum mati lagi.

(ShahbudinHusin 10/10/2019)

RM1.67bil For Free Breakfast? Thought Govt Was Broke, Says Dr Wee………

(The Star) – The government should reflect on its financial capacity before deciding to embark on a free breakfast programme for primary school students nationwide, says Ayer Hitam MP Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong.

He said the free breakfast programme could pose as a major financial burden to the government, as Education Minister Dr Maszlee Malik said in Parliament on Wednesday (Oct 9) that it was expected to cost between RM800mil and RM1.67bil.

Noting that RM289mil was allocated for the Supplementary Food Programme in 2018, he said the implementation of the programme would mean an increase of some RM1.3bil in costs.

“I thought they said we were poor? They said they can’t assist some people in obtaining petrol subsidies, but then suddenly, they are allocating that (free breakfast programme).

“I’m not completely against the programme, but we must look at our financial capacity, ” Wee said to reporters when met at the Parliament lobby on Wednesday (Oct 9).

He also said that the free breakfast should not be given to the rich, but to needy students instead.

“I will be the first one who supports this programme if it’s not for everyone. What is the point for us giving free breakfast to those who are rich? Most importantly, food must be given to those who are poor, ” he said.

“Expand the programme to the B40. If the government can afford it, then expand it to the M40. Now, even the T20 gets free breakfast, ” he added.

The former deputy education minister under the Barisan Nasional administration said that proper planning must be done before implementing the free breakfast programme, as the size of school canteens are not big enough to cater to every student.

“Imagine before class starts at 7.30am, where will the 1,000 students sit and eat? Are they eating in classrooms? How many school canteens are big enough, ” he questioned.

“I’m urging the government to think this through. Otherwise, when there are problems next January or February, we will see yet another u-turn, ” he added.

Earlier in Parliament on Wednesday, Dr Maszlee said some 70% of students skipped breakfast, while the World Bank’s Report on Realising Human Potential noted that incidences of stunted growth in Malaysia was high.

The programme was announced last August and aimed at ensuring school students were provided with a healthy meal to start their day.

The free breakfast programme will be catered to some 2.7 million primary school students nationwide, starting next year.

Mutakhir: The opposition is playing up the barua issue. Normally, I don’t care. But it seems to be hurting us. So I have to ask…

    [Mutakhir turns to Anu War]

Anu, did you say barua during the press conference?

[Anu War storms out of room. The next day, he holds a press conference]

Anu War: I met the Prime Minister, and I assure you, the ‘barua’ issue is settled. There is no problem between us, he told me he needs to settle the country’s problems before he steps down.

Reporter: How long before he steps down?

Anu War: The economy is very bad, it will take a while. But I am the next Prime Minister of Malalala land

Reporter: But what if something happens to Mutakhir before the economy is fixed?

Anu War: (looks at reporter) How long do you think Mutakhir will live?

    Reporter: (smiles) Many more years.

Dr M Closes The Book On The Boom He Launched……

Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad has walked away from one of the big intellectual drivers of his decades at Malaysia’s helm: The idea that the former commodity-dependent backwater could be transformed into a fully developed country by 2020. It’s vital for the South-East Asian nation’s future that the right lessons be learned from this letdown.

(The Star) – The Prime Minister conceded last weekend that Vision 2020, his demanding scheme to propel Malaysia to an industrial powerhouse, has failed. Launched in 1991, the plan became shorthand for the rapid development that characterised much of Asia during that decade.

Dr Mahathir effectively just closed the book on an economic era. For this, he is to be applauded, overdue though such an acknowledgment was.

While Vision 2020 was always more rhetoric than reality, it did serve to harness Malaysia to the climate of the times. Globalisation was in its glory days, elaborate supply chains were built throughout the region, and foreign investment poured in.

Living standards and education attainment rose, Japan was Asia’s big commercial power and the end of the Cold War made Western-style economic and political opening seem like natural law.

I even believed it myself during my tenure in Kuala Lumpur before witnessing the devastation wrought by the Asian financial crisis.

Not that Dr Mahathir saw the West as necessarily the best template. He often favoured Japan and its model of post-war industrialisation, which inspired a signature approach that he dubbed, “Look East.”

Every country needs aspirations. Dr Mahathir’s goals were big and essentially laudable.

In practice, however, development became equated with a stifling bigger-is-better doctrine. Malaysians boasted of the world’s tallest buildings, as the Petronas Twin Towers then were, highest airport tower, longest conveyor belt, and biggest flag.

None of these monuments work particularly well today: hallway floors creak in the towers and very few of Kuala Lumpur International Airport’s immigration counters ever appear to be open during the busy early evening.

Developed countries succeed without devotion to superlative bragging rights.

    Long boom, then letdown

Vision 2020 has been retired but there’s little sign that Dr Mahathir has internalised the lessons.

Speaking at the launch of a new economic plan, he blamed the two leaders who followed his retirement in 2003, especially Datuk Seri Najib Razak, for the shortfall.

Dr Mahathir defeated Najib in elections in 2018 and returned to head the government at the age of 92. Najib has subsequently been charged with graft; he says he is innocent.

Dr Mahathir’s new plan is called Shared Prosperity Vision 2030. Like its predecessor, this project is a sign of the times.

Instead of reaching for grandeur, the focus is more down to earth: income inequality, inclusiveness, technology, an economy less reliant on oil.

Implicit is an acceptance that the explosive economic expansion before the 1997-98 crisis is gone forever.

That doesn’t have to be a bad thing. Decades of rapid development widened the divide between Malaysia’s wealthiest and poorest fivefold from 1989 through 2016, according to the government.

It was trendy to be a tycoon in the Malaysia of the 1990s. (To be fair, it was everywhere). In Kuala Lumpur, this often meant – depending on race – that one could do very well out of state asset sales, ranging from airlines to the auto industry to roads.

The signature economic policy of Malaysia for 50 years has been to raise the economic lot of the Malays. They are the largest ethnic group, but the ethnic Chinese minority has tended to control the wealth.

Successive governments have tried to chip away at affirmative action for the majority, a nod to criticism that it fostered cronyism and dependence on state handouts.

They found it very tough politically. The Shared Prosperity Vision 2030 doesn’t seem to exert much energy on the issue.

By focusing on other social issues, though, Dr Mahathir is again staying at the edge of a broader intellectual and political current. Leaders across the world are increasingly attuned to pocketbook issues and grievances that threaten support for mainstream politics.

For Malaysia, and perhaps Asia generally, it also ends a period of economic history.

The region may still be home to developing economies; they are no longer rapidly developing.

Why The Bumiputra Agenda Is Still A Priority…

(The Star) – The economic pie of the country is to be shared by every Malaysian – that is the main agenda of SPV 2030.

Yet, many question why the bumiputra agenda is still being given prominence in the new vision.

According to statistics by Institut Masa Depan Malaysia (Masa), the bumiputras are at the bottom when it comes to ownership of wealth and income levels.

Current statistics show that 71.3% of the Bottom 40 or B40 households nationwide are bumiputras.

The industries in which bumiputras are involved in are mostly low value-added industries.

The states which are far behind in terms of development also have populations with a bumiputra majority.

Bumiputras constitute nearly 60% of the country’s population, but the gross domestic product contribution per capita of bumiputras stands at 46%.

According to research conducted by Masa, it is found that of that 46%, the real contribution is only at 28% when the government-linked corporations are excluded.

Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad lamented at the SPV 2030 launch the main reasons stunting the development and distribution of the country’s economy are corruption and abuse of power.

“This has become cancerous and the only cure, as a doctor, as I see it, should be to amputate and eliminate it, ” said Dr Mahathir.

“What we should get rid of is the corruption and abuse of economic policies (meant to uplift the poor bumiputras) and not eliminate the bumiputra agenda. The agenda is blameless.”

He further stated that SPV 2030 will be very strict when it comes to those who intend to sabotage the bumiputra agenda by using “Ali Baba” methods or abusing the contracts meant for those needing it to uplift their impoverished economy.

Under SPV 2030, there are six main strategies to ensure the marked uplift of bumiputras.

The first is to emphasise equal results to ensure that there is fair socioeconomic development which is on par with the development of other ethnic groups.

Second, existing policies, strategies and initiatives will be further improved and strengthened.

The bumiputras will have better access to training and education, proper access to capital funds

for businesses, research and development as well as commercial and innovation.

There will also be the implementation of initiatives to ensure that there is more bumiputra participation in government procurements.

More steps will also be put in place to curb the abuse of support mechanisms given to sincere entrepreneurs.

Lastly, the sixth strategy intends to develop the attitude and productivity of bumiputras to be a more competitive community.

SPV 2030 also intends to address the issue of monopoly in the supply chain, to ensure that there are more opportunities for the bumiputras to compete in a healthy manner in business and entrepreneurship.

Development of policies and strategies in major urban areas also need to take into account the bumiputras’ ability to own properties in the area.

Likewise, rural economic centres need to be strengthened to boost the economy and create new jobs.

In addition, economic development should focus on less developed states with high bumiputra population. These states include Perlis, Kedah, Kelantan, Terengganu, Sabah and Sarawak.

Rapid development in the states will indirectly provide more economic and employment opportunities to the bumiputras.

The bumiputras’ achievements must be also prioritised and systematically applied in each core strategy and capability to achieve SPV 2030 goals.

In this regard, the bumiputra community needs to take the initiative to drastically change their mindset and attitude by showing a strong commitment to increasing their productivity.

    1. Agreed.

But for those who think that the Bumiputeras are slow and not showing a strong commitment to increasing their productivity, pls be reminded that the Chinese in mainland China, in a huge country and being the most populous, took thousands of years, became communist and suffered before they became highly progressive.

Life was miserable in China and they were regarded by the West like pariahs until only a few decades ago.

Isu LTTE: Exco Melaka, Adun DAP ditahan polis……

Was The Malay Dignity Congress A Trap Mahathir Walked Into?……..

Yes, under Malaysia “Lama” you can do and say all those nasty and derogatory things. Under Malaysia Baru you cannot even express your hopes and aspirations without being called a racist. There is definitely something very wrong with Malaysia Baru. Why not Pakatan Harapan just be honest and admit they made a mistake in supporting Mahathir and in putting him as Prime Minister instead of playing all these games?

I have been receiving many “conspiracy theory” reports regarding the Malay Dignity Congress or Kongres Maruah Melayu from many quarters over the last few days. The most interesting of these theories is that this Congress was aimed at sabotaging Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

According to these “theorists”, Mahathir depends on Chinese support, not because the Chinese love him but because the Chinese are too ashamed to admit they made a mistake in supporting Mahathir against Najib Tun Razak, and made an even bigger mistake in appointing Mahathir as the Prime Minister.

The Chinese now recognise the fact that the country was better-managed under Najib in his nine years as Prime Minister compared to the last 17 months under Mahathir. The Chinese have also begun to realise that the 1MDB “disaster” is not really a disaster after all — and that even if it was the whole country was not being dragged down because of it.

Tawfik Ismail corrects DAP and says the rot in Malaysia only started when Mahathir became Prime Minister in 1981
Pakatan Harapan, of course — in particular Mahathir, Lim Kit Siang and Lim Guan Eng — keep saying that Malaysia is in trouble, Malaysia has no money, this cannot be done or that cannot be done, because Najib stole billions from 1MDB.

However, judging by developments in the ongoing 1MDB trial, it does not appear that any evidence is being unearthed that Najib did, in fact, steal billions from 1MDB. First of all, it appears that the so-called “evidence” is mere hearsay testimony, and even if the hearsay testimony is to be believed, it appears that a bunch of Chinese men/women are the real thieves.

Anyway, Malaysia seems to be having a large hole in its pocket. And the 1MDB “theft” is far smaller than that hole. So how can 1MDB be the cause? It is like you telling your bank you are unable to repay your RM1,000,000 loan because one of your salesmen ran away with RM10,000 of the company’s money. Only a fool will buy that story.

Shahrol Azral’s testimony in the 1MDB trial is all hearsay about what he heard or was told and so far he has shown no evidence that Najib stole any money
And the Chinese realise this. They know that the 1MDB “problem” is too small to bring down the entire country’s economy. There is a bigger reason for the country’s economic woes, far bigger than 1MDB. And that bigger problem is mismanagement of the economy since Pakatan Harapan took over 17 months ago in May 2018.

But how does Pakatan Harapan replace Mahathir with Anwar Ibrahim without admitting they made a mistake putting Mahathir as the Prime Minister? Malulah if they admit that. They also cannot use the excuse that Mahathir is mismanaging the economy because Guan Eng (meaning DAP) is the Finance Minister and Azmin Ali (meaning PKR) is the Economic Affairs Minister. They need a “stronger” excuse.

And this excuse is the “racist” Malay Dignity Congress or Kongres Maruah Melayu.

It is said those people behind this Congress are Anwar’s people pretending to be Mahathir’s supporters. And the reason they planned this Congress was to trap Mahathir. If this Congress is seen as a racist convention, and that Mahathir is behind it, the Chinese will want Mahathir ousted and replaced with Anwar.

DAP is too ashamed to admit they made a mistake in appointing Mahathir as the Prime Minister
At least when they make their move on Mahathir it will be seen as for noble reasons because Mahathir is supporting the Malay Supremacy or Ketuanan Melayu agenda. And that is why the mainstream and social media are playing up the Congress as racism. You can see the Chinese and Indians going to town condemning the Congress as an anti-Chinese and anti-Indian festival.

That is what the conspiracy theory gang is saying. Of course, there are many other theories but I thought that was the most interesting of the lot. Others say the Congress was aimed at dividing PAS and Umno while there are some who say Mahathir wanted to show Anwar that he (Anwar) may have DAP on his side, but he (Mahathir) has PAS and Umno with him.

Anyway, the Chinese and Indians — and Pakatan Harapan supporters — seem to have forgotten that they now live in Malaysia Baru. And, in Malaysia Baru, they propagate freedom of speech, freedom of thought, freedom of opinion, freedom of choice, freedom of association, etc. Hence this means there is nothing wrong with the Malay Dignity Congress or Kongres Maruah Melayu. It is absolutely kosher in a country that respects and practices various freedoms.

The Congress was held merely to express the hopes and aspirations of the Malays but the non-Malays call this racism
So how can the Congress be labelled as racism? The Congress did not say Malays are superior and better than non-Malays. The Congress did not say Malays are God’s chosen people. The Congress did not advocate ethnic-cleansing of the non-Malays. The Congress did not say Malays are first-class citizens while non-Malays are third-class citizens. The Congress just expressed the hopes and aspirations of the Malays.

Is it now wrong under Malaysia Baru to express your hopes and aspirations? That would mean Malaysia Baru is worse than the Barisan Nasional Malaysia of the 61 years before that.

Under Malaysia “Lama” you were allowed to whack Islamic Shariah laws, whack the Raja-Raja Melayu, call Malays immigrants from Indonesia, deny the existence of the Social Contract, condemn Bahasa Malaysia as a backward language, declare that Chinese education is more superior than Malay education, say that if not because of the Chinese and Indians the Malays would still be living in trees, call the Malays lazy, say that without the crutches or tongat the Malays would starve to death, and much more.
